I found the title to be the only thing intriguing about this book. There is very little original material here, but an exhaustive list of attributions without conclusions.
If you expect a juicy, previously unrevealed account of clerical sexual transgression, lurid and sinister Vatican alliances with searing moral conflict, you’d better go back to the Da Vinci Code, because you won’t find them here.
The only thing I gleaned from this book is that the recent sexual abuse of children by Roman Catholic clergy is a time-honored tradition. From Castrati to catechism kids the abuse has passed by the uncensoring eyes of popes, cardinals and bishops since women were banned from the priesthood.
This book documents the shame of it all, but there is nothing new under the sun.

This book is a must read for all catholics. Thanks to Tom Doyle, Richard Sipe and Patrick Wall for having the courage “to do the right thing” and reveal what the catholic church wants to ignore and keep “secret” – power, control and abuse.

An critical overview of the Catholic churches strategy of avoiding the issue of sexuality and the detailed examination of the avoidance and coverup of the sexuality leading to victimization of the youngest and most vulnerable of the church’s believer. My brother was a victim of the church and unfortunately detailed the history that lead to this abuse. I recommend this for any one examining this issue.

I recommend this book as a major contribution to the transparency that our society increasingly expects of its leaders and, hopefully, as a measure of justice with the thousands of victims of clerical abuse and their families.
